No. 6 Red Raiders win All-American Intercollegiate
March 19, 2024 | Men's Golf
LUBBOCK, Texas — The No. 6 Texas Tech men's golf team posted a 54-hole tournament-best 7-over-par, following Tuesday's final 18 at the Golf Club of Houston to claim the All-American Intercollegiate title. The championship secured Tech's second win over its last three events this spring and fifth multi-win season in the last eight years.
After facing a four-stroke deficit entering the tournament's third and final round, Tech finished the event two strokes ahead of Sam Houston, who led to start the day. The team event, hosted by Houston and Rice, consisted of 20 teams and 100 players.Â
Junior Calum Scott led the way for Tech on the individual leaderboard, tying for sixth, his second top-ten finish in his last three events. Scott also placed sixth a month ago at The Prestige, which also saw the Red Raiders take home the team title.
Scott was one of two Red Raiders who finished in the top 20 at the All-American Intercollegiate, as sophomore Matthew Comegys used a strong back-nine to place himself in a three-way tie for 18th. Comegys brushed off a slow start on Tuesday and fired a 2-under-par across his final nine holes, earning his fourth straight top-20 finish in the process.Â
Tech's biggest riser of the day was senior Baard Skogen, who carded a final round team-best 2-under-par 70 to ascend 28 spots into a tie for 29th. Skogen's day was highlighted by birdies on holes No. 13 and 15 and an eagle on No. 8.Â
Senior Tyran Snyders joined Skogen in 29th as he scored a 1-under-par across the final two rounds to shake off a 7-over in round one.Â
Vicente Marzilio rounded out a rock-solid day for Tech golfers at the Tournament Course by shooting an even-par in round three. The senior finished in a seven-way tie for 40th.
At the Member Course where the All-American Individual Tournament took place, Red Raider Charlie DeLong earned his second title of the season on the individual circuit — the junior was also champion of the individual competition at The Prestige, Feb. 19-21. DeLong ended his title-winning week with his best round of the tournament, carding a 3-under-par 69 on Tuesday for his third round of 60 this spring season.Â
Next up for the Red Raiders will be a trip to the Sunshine State for the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, hosted at Floridian National Golf Club, March 25-26.
