Lady Raiders fall to No. 14 Kansas State

LUBBOCK, Texas – Sophomore Bailey Maupin scored a team-best 17 points, but the Texas Tech Lady Raiders dropped their game against the No. 14 Kansas State Wildcats by a score of 73-49 on Saturday afternoon at the United Supermarkets Arena.
Maupin, who shot 50 percent from the 3-point line, tied her career high in threes with four to lead the Lady Raiders (16-15, 5-13 Big 12). This was also Maupin's team-leading 25th double-figure scoring game.
Sophomore Jasmine Shavers also posted her 24th double-digit scoring game this year against the Wildcats (24-6, 12-5 Big 12) after totaling 14 points. She almost collected a double-double after recording a team-best eight rebounds and added four assists in the game. Following Shavers was Jada Wynn, who tallied seven points and six boards.
K-State opened the first quarter on a 5-0 run, but the Lady Raiders would tie it up thanks to a layup by Jazmaine Lewis and a 3-pointer from Maupin. The Wildcats scored five points right before the media timeout to lead 10-5. Both teams would only score five more points combined as the Wildcats took a 14-6 lead heading into the next quarter.
In the second period, Rhyle McKinney scored a three at the 8:23 mark but K-State would score the next five points to lead by a 21-9 score to force a Tech timeout. The Wildcats came out of the timeout with an 8-0 run before Jada Wynn nailed a three to stop it. Kansas State then scored seven of the next nine points before Maupin hit a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left in the period as K-State led 36-17.
Maupin opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer, then Shavers connected with a couple free throws to try and close the gap. Texas Tech would not score for almost two minutes before the Lady Raiders called a timeout. Coming out of it, both K-State and Tech got layups, with the Lady Raiders' coming from Lewis. The Wildcats outscored the Lady Raiders 5-2 to follow before the media timeout. Then, Loghan Johnson immediately scored three points for Tech, then Maupin added two more free throws to make it 47-31. K-State ended the quarter on a 7-3 run as they maintained the lead heading into the fourth.
Both Maupin and Shavers hit 3-pointers to open the final period, but the Wildcats answered with five straight points. Shavers added a couple free throws before the media timeout as K-State led 61-42. An 8-1 Kansas State run ensued before Shavers made a tough layup. However, the Wildcats were able to maintain the lead as they won the game by a 73-49 score.
