
Tech on the road for two top-25 matches

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raiders are back on the road for two conference matches this week. First, the Red Raiders travel to Orlando, Fla., to take on the No. 24 UCF Knights on Thursday, April 4 at 6 p.m., before going to Fort Worth, Texas for a matchup against No. 3 TCU Saturday, April 6 at 2 p.m.
Texas Tech (8-12, 0-4 Big 12) is led in singles by senior Olle Wallin. Ranked No. 43 by the ITA in singles, Wallin boasts a team-best 10 dual wins, all coming at the top court. He is coming off a career-best win after he downed No. 1-ranked Eliot Spizzirri of Texas in straight sets, 7-6 (6), 6-2. Following Wallin in dual singles wins is Reed Collier with seven and Piotr Pawlak with six.
In doubles, the duo of Pawlak and Sebastian Abboud are ranked No. 24 in the latest ITA rankings as they hold a team-leading dual record of 12-2 on the year. In addition, freshman Niksa Arsic and Wallin paired up for the first time this season as they earned their first win together at Baylor after taking down Christopher Frantzen and Oskar Brostrom, 6-4, at court three.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Texas Tech and UCF are 2-2 all-time in program history, with their last match coming on March 6, 2020 as UCF won in a close, 4-3, battle. The Knights boast a 16-3 overall record and a 2-2 record in Big 12 play. UCF opened the season on a seven-match win streak before falling to Florida, 1-6. The Knights' other two losses were against No. 8 Texas and No. 22 Oklahoma on March 30. UCF recently took down No. 26 Oklahoma State in a thrilling 4-3 win, where Knight Lleyton Cronje clinched the match with a 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 7-6 (5) victory at court two over No. 70 Isaac Becroft. The ITA National Indoor runners-up have recent victories against No. 26 Oklahoma State (4-0), No. 19 Baylor (4-1) and No. 29 UCLA (4-3). Their three losses were against No. 22 Oklahoma (3-4), No. 8 Texas (0-5) and No. 1 Ohio State (3-4). Five Horned Frogs are ranked in singles: Jack Pinnington (7), Jake Fearnley (9), Pedro Vives (54), Lui Maxted (58) and Sebastian Gorzny (70).
