Red Raiders take the series; Villa goes 4-for-4
April 28, 2024 | Softball
HOUSTON, Texas – Texas Tech (28-17, 8-13) defeated Houston (24-26, 4-20) 5-2 on Sunday afternoon. Senior Arriana Villa finished the day 4-for-4 and is now the third Red Raider to record four hits in a game this season.
Â
Maddy Wright picked up her 11th win of the season after pitching 7.0 innings and allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out two.
Â
Tech's offense came back to life as they put up 10 hits including a Kennedy Crites RBI double. That double ties Crites career high for doubles in a season and set a new career high for RBIs in a season.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Both teams went down in order in the first inning before the Red Raiders put up four runs in the second inning.
Â
Abbie Orrick started off the inning with a single but was then put out on fielder's choice the next at bat. Crites stepped up to the plate and launched a double as Raegan Jennings sped home from first to get the Tech's first run of the game.
Â
After a Villa single, Riley Love poked one through the right side of the infield to score Crites from third.
Â
Kailey Wyckoff roped a single up the middle and thanks to some good base running and an error, Tech plated two more runs to go up 4-0.
Â
The Red Raiders final run came after Logan Halleman pinch ran for Carson Armijo who slapped a single into right field. Halleman moved to second on a ground ball and then stole third and forced a Cougars error which allowed her to slide home and give Tech a 5-0 lead.
Â
Wright pitched another gem and held the Cougars hit less until the fourth inning and scoreless until the sixth inning when Houston recorded two runs.
Â
QUICK HITS:
UP NEXT: Tech will host its final series of the regular season against No. 1 Texas beginning on May 3. That weekend Tech will also be honoring its 10 seniors before each game.
