
No. 1 Longhorns take series opener

LUBBOCK – Texas Tech fell 13-3 in five innings against No. 1 Texas in the series opener on Friday at Rocky Johnson Field.
The Red Raiders (28-18, 8-13 Big 12) led 2-0 after the first inning with a Demi Elder single that drove in Arriana Villa and a sacrifice fly from Abbie Orrick. The Longhorns (43-6, 21-4 Big 12) responded with three runs in the second and third innings before breaking the game open with seven in the fourth.
The series is scheduled to continue with a 1 p.m. first pitch on Saturday before the series finale at noon on Sunday.
Riley Love and Logan Halleman finished the game with two hits each for the Red Raiders with Love going 2-for-3 with an RBI double to right field in the fifth inning for the third and final run of the game. Love now leads Tech with 47 RBI after her 12th double of the season drove in Halleman who led off the fifth with a single. Tech finished the game with six hits.
Maddy Wright (9-8) took the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits in three innings of work. Wright walked three and struck out one before Ranci Wells and Olivia Rains threw one inning each. Rains had a clean fifth, getting two groundouts and a flyout.
Teagan Kavan (15-2) earned the win for the Longhorns after striking out four and allowing only one run in four innings of relief. Mac Morgan started and allowed two runs on two hits and a walk in the first. Texas finished the game with six players having two hits each and 14 hits total. Leighann Goode led the Longhorns with four RBI while Bella Dayton had three RBI on two hits. Texas has now won 14 in a row going into the second game of the series.
The Red Raiders are now 1-18 against opponents ranked No. 1 with their only win coming against Arizona back in 1998.
