
Tech finishes fourth in The Match Play at Jimmie Austin

The Red Raiders concluded the regular season on Tuesday, narrowly falling to host Oklahoma and North Texas in the semifinal and third-place matches at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
NORMAN, Okla. – The Texas Tech women's golf team finished fourth at The Match Play at Jimmie Austin on Tuesday, hosted by Oklahoma at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. Following a quarterfinal win on Monday against K-State, the Sooners narrowly defeated the Red Raiders in the semifinal round on Tuesday morning and fell to North Texas in the afternoon's third-place match to conclude the event.
The host and one-seed Oklahoma dropped fourth-seeded Texas Tech by a score of 2-1-2. The Red Raiders' win came via Gala Dumez defeating Isabelle Schlick, 1-up. The Red Raiders then suffered a 3-1-1 defeat to the No. 3-seed Mean Green in the afternoon's third-place match for their fourth-place position out of the eight teams at The Match Play at Jimmie Austin. Kylee Loewe recorded Tech's win versus North Texas, defeating Bouquet Subsomboom 3&2.
Loewe was a bright spot for Tech on Tuesday logging a win and a tie. After a hard-fought semifinal match against Oklahoma, where she earned a tie after trailing by two after the first 13 holes, the junior earned the win next time out in the afternoon's third-place match against UNT. Loewe capped her tournament dropping just two holes during her third-place matchup.
Dumez, the Red Raiders' morning victor, earned the win against Oklahoma late on the back nine following a stretch of five draws in a tie match over holes 11-16, the senior won hole no. 17 to break the deadlock and ultimately secure a 1-up victory. Dumez fell 2&1 in the afternoon.Â
Cameron Freund made an inspiring effort to earn a draw in her third-place matchup against the Mean Green. Trailing by two with two holes left, Freund recorded a birdie and par to win the final two holes and notch a tie for the Red Raiders.
Tuesday's action marked the Red Raiders' final tournament of the 2023-24 regular season. Postseason play is next up as Texas Tech travels to Houston for the Big 12 Championship at Houston Oaks Country Club, April 18-20.
