WEEKEND NOTES:
W Equaled 450 & 30
With victory over UTRGV on Tuesday afternoon the Red Raiders hit a pair of milestones as Tech recorded its 30th victory of the season, marking the 10th straight season that the Red Raiders have reached 30 wins in a season (excluding the 2020 season which was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic). The victory was also the 450th victory for Coach Tim Tadlock, as Tadlock became the second coach in Tech Baseball history (Lary Hays) to reach 450 total wins.
AND THEN THERE WERE NINE
With the midweek contests completed, the Red Raiders will play just nine regular season games over the first 20 days of the seasons penultimate month. Following the weekend series with Oklahoma, the Red Raiders will close Big 12 play with a weekend series at OSU next weekend before heading to Tempe for a three-game two-day multiple opponent weekend against Arizona State and UNLV. The Red Raiders and Sun Devils will play a pair of night games on Thursday (May 16) and Friday (May 17) night while Tech is scheduled for a 3 p.m. (1 p.m. MST) contest against UNLV.
SOONER STATE TWO-STEP
With just two conference weekends and six games remaining, the Red Raiders will be tested over the final two weekends of conference play as the series will feature the top teams in the current Big 12 standings. The first opponent on the docket is first place Oklahoma who enters at 15-6 while the second weekend against the Cowboys of Oklahoma State will feature the Big 12s second place team. OSU enters the weekend at 14-7 in Big 12 play and are currently tied with West Virginia. Unlike the Red Raiders who only have two series left in confernece play, both OSU and OU have three series remaining in Big 12 Conference play. Â
Â
TRYING TO DO WHAT OU DID IN '22
The last time Oklahoma visited Lubbock for a weekend series was the 2022 season. Like this weekend's series, it came as the Red Raiders final home conference series. Entering the weekend at 31-19 overall and 13-8 in Big 12 play, the Sooners won the first game of the series before falling in the finale. The series proved to be a bit of a spring board for OU who following the weekend series in Lubbock won 10 out of 12 and advanced all the way to the College World Series Championship Series.

KA$H BOMBS Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
After hitting into tough luck last weekend against KU, first baseman Gavin Kash erupted for two home runs on Tuesday night against UTRGV. After homering to left-center in his first at-bat of the night, Kash ripped a home run down the left field line for his second of the night. Kash's home runs were his 11th and 12th of the season, as the first baseman regained the team lead in HRs. The longballs were Kash's 37th and 38th all-time as the infielder moved into a tie for seventh all-time on the Red Raiders home run list. BRAVO. DAMIAN BRAVO. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Damian Bravo has been suburb in his second season in Lubbock, as the Sophomore has hit a team-best .398 in his 41 games played. After leaving the series finale in Fort Worth and missing the two midweeks at Arkansas and Friday's opener against WVU, Bravo returned to the lineup for both ends of the DH on Sunday. Bravo leads the Big 12 in average and doubles. Bravo is third in the league in hits (64) and runs scored (49). On Tuesday night Bravo recorded his 20th multiple hit game of the season and scored his 50th and 51st runs of the season. After never having a triple in his career in over 180 at-bats, Bravo has recorded a triple in back-to-back games.

The Red Raiders have clearly been aggressive on the base-paths this season, as the club has now stolen 45 bases in 47Â games played. The Red Raiders went until Mar. 23 against BYU without a caught stealing as the Red Raiders went 28 consecutive stolen base attempts with out a caught stealing. Another pitcher who changed his warm up song in 2024 was senior Josh Sanders, who will now warm up to Adelle's Rolling in the Deep. So far it seems the warm up song is working for Sanders, as the righty has pitched 37.0 innings thus far, allowing just 26 hits and 10 runs (eight earned). Sanders has now struck out 38 batters in his 37.0 innings of work. The righty retired his last 14 batters in a row including three perfect innings in Friday's win over Houston. Sanders allowed his first run in a month last weekend at KU when he was touched up for two runs. The runs were the first he had allowed in seven appearances and 13.2 inning pitched. He is tied for the team lead in saves (2) and is tied for the team lead in wins (4). Sanders' appearance on Tuesday night against UTRGV was his 67th all-time appearance as he passed Jeff Peck for 10th all-time on the appearance list.

HUGETYRAÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Freshman Parker Hutyra has really emerged in his first collegiate season as the freshman has allowed just three runs in 15 appearances and 22.0 innings pitched. Hutyra has struck out 24 batters this season, and hallowed his first run since Feb. 21 vs. Oregon State last weekend against WVU. That span stretched 18.1 innings and included five straight key outings against BYU, UCF, Stanford and TCU. The righty has struck out 24 batters in his last 18.1 innings pitched. Prior to the Sunday appearance in the loss to TCU the Red Raiders had won six straight games he'd appeared in. And while Hutyra has continued to perform at a high level, he did maybe his best work of the season against Houston as after throwing 45 pitches in nearly three scoreless innings, Hutyra entered in a four-run game and fired a scoreless ninth to close out a series sweep. After allowing three walks and game-winning run on Friday night against Kansas, Hutyra bounced back on Sunday afternoon when he pitched three nearly perfect innings. The  righty allowed just one hit and retired nine of the 10 batters he faced.
Â

This weekends series against No. 22 Oklahoma will mark the final three matchups between the longtime Big 12 rivals as conference foes. LOGJAM IN THE MIDDLE
With three Big 12 weekends left before the conclusion of both conference play and the regular season, the Big 12 standings are rather congested in the middle as 10 of the league's 13 teams have at least eight losses and eight of the 13 have at least 10 losses. The Red Raiders who reside in seventh in the current Big 12 standings are just two wins behind both OSU and WVU who are tied for second in the league standings. TCU and BYU are the only other two teams who have played eight conference weekends. The Horned Frogs reside in 11th place at 10-14 while BYU is in 13th at 6-18.
