Q&A with Leon Horner III

LUBBOCK – We sat down with Leon Horner III for a quick conversation during the second week of summer workouts at the Womble Practice Facility. Horner signed with the Red Raiders on May 9 after playing at Dynamic Prep and Frisco Memorial during his high school career. A Frisco, Texas native, Horner was a McDonald's All-American nominee last season after he averaged 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game and helped Dynamic Prep win the Texas Christian Athletic League (T-CAL) 6A State Championship.

What do you love most about basketball?
"Coming into the gym and competing every day. Basketball is always fun for me. It makes all the hard work worth it when everything comes together with a team."

 Name your top-three musical artists?
"Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Drake. I'd want to see Drake in concert the most."

What are you most proud of from your high school career?
"Winning the state championship. Our team competed every day in practice and always worked hard. We played for each other and won it all."

What has basketball taught you?
"To stay focused and keep going. You can't give up."
What's something personal that would surprise people about you?
"I can sing."

Who do you think is the best basketball player ever?
"LeBron James. Definitely. He's my all-time favorite player and whatever team he's on, that's my team too."

Is there a pro player you see shades of yourself in?
"Cade Cunningham and Cam Reddish."

Who do you look up to?
"My mom and big brother. My mom is always working and has done everything she can for my family. She taught me everything I know. My brother has been by my side and pushes me to get better."

Nickname?
"H3. But most of the time just Lee."

Favorite movie?
"House Party. Kid 'n Play. I watched it one time when I was real young and fell in love with it. Kid 'n Play are hilarious."

"Blackish"

How do you spend your free time away from the gym?
"I really like being in the gym but if I had time away I'd play 2K or NCAA Football. Something like that to chill."

What drives you?
"My motivator is definitely my mom. She's been doing so much for me since I was little. LaShaunda Horner. It's time for me to do it for her now."
