Red Raiders open Big 12 play in Utah

The Red Raiders will face Utah and No. 17 BYU in the opening weekend of Big 12 play
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech volleyball team (8-4) will be back on the road to face (RV) Utah and No. 17 BYU in the opening weekend of Big 12 play. The Utes will face the Red Raiders in their first ever Big 12 match on Thursday at 8 p.m. CT. Tech will then travel to Provo to face the Cougars on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Red Raiders are a combined 2-13-1 against their conference foes out of Utah. The Cougars (7-3) took both matches against them last season by scores of 3-2 and 3-0, but the Red Raiders have not faced Utah (10-1) since 2001 when they lost 3-0.
PREVIOUSLY IN TEXAS TECH VOLLEYBALL:
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â The Red Raiders are coming off a 1-2 weekend which saw them sweep FIU before dropping matches to Miami and No. 25 Arkansas. Despite the losses, Tech played both teams tough as they took a set off the Razorbacks and dropped the first two sets to the Hurricanes by just a combined four points.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Simone Overbeck recorded her first career double-double against Arkansas, going for 10 kills and 10 digs while setting a career high in points with 12.5.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Mia Wesley recorded eight serving aces over the weekend and now leads the team with 15.

NOTABLES:
-       Maddie Correa is just 19 digs away from entering into the top 10 in program history – she currently has 1,120 for her career.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Wesley is just one of three active players with a chance to reach 200 aces and 1,800 kills in a career. The graduate senior needs just three more aces and 24 more kills to accomplish this feat.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Hanna Borer inches closer to 2,000 career digs, sitting at 1,896 for her career.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â The Red Raiders are ranked 30th in total digs (729) and currently have three players with at least 100 digs including Correa, Wesley and Emily Contreras.
