Reagan Leinen picks up MVP honors after stellar weekend
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech volleyball (5-1) ended the weekend with a perfect 3-0 record in the Red Raider Classic after taking a 3-1 victory over Green Bay (1-5) thanks to comebacks in both the third and fourth sets. Mia Wesley again led the team with a season-high 21 digs while hitting .319 percent.
Reagan Leinen was named the tournament MVP after finishing the weekend with 29 kills, eight serving aces, 11 digs and nine blocks while recording just two errors.
The Red Raiders took set one 25-20 before Green Bay took the second set handily, 25-15.
The Phoenix looked to be in complete control in the third set jumping out to an early 7-3 lead before Tech cut the lead down to 10-8. Green Bay went on another run, going up 19-12 before the Red Raiders went on to take the set 26-24 thanks to five Wesley kills and three kills and a block from Emily Merrick.
The fourth set was almost exactly the same as the Phoenix went up 18-13 before the Red Raiders rallied back with a 12-5 run to take the match.
NOTABLES:
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Merrick finished second on the team in kills with 12 and hit .333 percent while adding two blocks.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Simone Overbeck and Brynn Williams both finished with seven kills.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Reagan Engler and Aliyah McDonald combined for five kills to round out the rest of the major scorers.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Hanna Borer and Katelyn Cochran dished out 50 assists, Borer with 32 and Cochran with 18.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Maddie Correa finished with 16 digs, Abby Dickinson with 15 and Emily Contreras with 13.
UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will travel to compete in the UTRGV tournament next weekend.
