January 24, 2025 | Women's Basketball
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders host the Oklahoma State Cowgirls this Saturday, January 25 at 2 p.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena. Oklahoma State leads the all-time series with a 40-35 record as the Cowgirls are on a 10-game winning streak against the Lady Raiders dating back to February 26, 2020.
Juniors Bailey Maupin and Jasmine Shavers are the two leading scorers for the Lady Raiders in the second-consecutive season so far. Shavers leads the team with 14.9 points per game followed by Maupin's 13.5 points per game. In addition, Shavers has scored a team-best 312 points this year and Maupin is just behind with 284 points. The juniors account for almost 50 percent of the team's total scoring (43.3 percent) and account for 57.0 percent of the team's free throws with 80 made each.
In the last three games, both Denae Fritz and Loghan Johnson have been heating up. Sitting just behind Tech's two leading scorers in those three games, Fritz has averaged 8.0 points per game while Johnson averaged 7.7 points per game, helping the Lady Raiders go on a two-game win streak. During these past three games, Johnson has shot 8-for-12 from the field (66.7 percent) while 66.7 percent of Fritz' field goals have been from beyond the arc.
The Lady Raiders are starting to get to the free throw line more and more each game - currently ranking 68th nationally and sixth in the Big 12 with 13.38 free throws made per game. In Tech's game against BYU on January 18, the Lady Raiders made a season-high of 23 free throws while taking 34 attempts. The 34 attempts were the most since November 26, 2022 when Tech had 38 attempts against Mercer. Coincidentally, the Lady Raiders were held to a season-low of three free throws at Houston on January 22, but were still able to win the game by almost 20 points. In each game, Texas Tech's free throws accounted for 20.3 percent of their scoring totals, but was held to just 4.8 percent of their scoring total at Houston.
Both Jasmine Shavers and Bailey Maupin have been the top two Lady Raiders to draw fouls for the team. Both rank 41st in the nation and fourth in the Big 12 with 80 free throws made each. Shavers is shooting a team-best 87.0 percent from the free-throw line, which is third in conference and 42nd in the NCAA. Against Iowa State on January 14, Shavers went a perfect 10-for-10 from the line which is the most free throws made without a miss in her career. In addition, Maupin leads the team with 100 free throw attempts, which is good for 48th in the nation and fourth in conference.
