Taylor Bahnub sets career high with 11 kills
AMES, Iowa – The Red Raiders (8-7, 0-3) dropped its match to (RV) Iowa State (12-2, 2-1) on Thursday night by a score of 3-1. Taylor Bahnub was a bright spot for the Red Raiders as she finished the night with a career-high 11 kills while hitting an efficient .588 on the night.
Reagan Engler led the team with 14 kills as she looked back to form, also recording seven digs. Addie Kanouff was third on the team with seven kills but led the team with five blocks. Jasmine Martin and Ashlyn Bellamy combined for five kills to round out the major scorers for the Red Raiders.
Sierra Grizzle had another 20-dig night, finishing with a match-high 26. Grizzle also finished with a team-high three aces followed by Peyton Dunn who had two and also led the team with 18 assists as Katelyn Cochran had 12 assists of her own. Shelby Ignash tallied a kill, but recorded four blocks – including a big solo block out of the middle - in just two sets of play to finish with 3.5 points on the night.
How it Happened:
Both teams hit well in the first set, but Iowa State was able to hit .393 with 14 kills while also using five service aces and three blocks to get take control of a set one that they won 25-18.
The Red Raiders got off to a much better start in the second set, going on a 6-0 run as they went up 12-8 before the Cyclones got in a rhythm of their own. Iowa State took the lead at 21-19 before Tech went on a 4-0 run to have the Cyclones on the ropes. However, Iowa State went on a 5-1 run as they took set two 26-24.
Tech used their block and big swings to take set three. Ignash provided two big blocks in the middle as Engler, Kanouff and Bahnub all had timely kills as the Red Raiders cruised to a third set 25-16 victory. The Cyclones did not really come close to threatening Tech in the set as they hit just .026 in the set thanks to some stout defense.
The fourth set was back-and-forth the whole way with each team going on small runs to chip away at leads. Iowa State took a late 20-17 lead
