Four Red Raiders in top 20 at Illini Women’s Invitational
October 06, 2025 | Women's Golf
MEDINAH, Ill. — With red numbers across the leaderboard through 36 holes at Medinah Country Club, Texas Tech women's golf capitalized on the scoring frenzy on Monday at the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah. Sophomore Denisa Vodickova leads the Red Raiders in 11th place, powered by an opening-round of 5-under-par 67, and is joined by three of her teammates also inside the top-20.
The Wake Forest transfer carded six birdies to only one dropped shot during her opening round, which put her atop of the leaderboard after the first 18 holes of 36 on the docket. She bounced back from a bogey on the par-5 seventh hole in the opening round with an immediate bounce-back birdie on the following hole, and another on her last hole of the round, No. 12. A second round of 1-over-par 73 pushed her down the leaderboard, but she still managed three birdies. Vodickova remains in the hunt, five shots off the lead.
One shot off Vodickova's pace is senior Lauren Zaretsky. She carded back-to-back under-par rounds with a 2-under-par 70 and a 1-under-par 71. The Canadian found her stride in the opening round after she started with 12 consecutive pars with three birdies in her final six holes. A birdie on her final hole of the second round pushed her into red figures for both rounds. Zaretsky will also have a chance with Vodickova to make a final round push up the leaderboard.
Both in a tie-for-20th at 2-under-par, senior Danique Stokmans (i) and junior Maja Ambroziak round out Tech's crew in contention. After the first round, both players improved from an even par 72 and 1-over-par 73, respectively, with under-par rounds in the second. Ambroziak holed four birdies to only one dropped shot en route to a 3-under-par second round of 69, while Stokmans made six birdies, but a double bogey and two more bogeys, stalled any more progress, leaving her at 2-under-par 70 in the up-and-down second round.
Texas Tech (-7) concluded Monday in seventh place of the 15 teams in action. UCF (-24) commands a six-shot lead over tournament host Illinois (-18).
Auburn's Balma Davalos has the 36-hole lead at 9-under-par, two shots over Charleston's Carys Fennessy.
The third and final round starts at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
