
Tech faces Colorado in Boulder

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders head to Boulder, Colo., to face the Colorado Buffaloes this Sunday, February 2 at 2 p.m. MST at the CU Events Center. Texas Tech leads the all-time series against Colorado, 18-5, as the Lady Raiders are on a five-game winning streak over the Buffs dating back to 2008. Tech last got a win versus Colorado on November 16, 2022 in overtime, 86-85.
Twice this season has Texas Tech held opponents to zero 3-pointers made in a game. The first time it happened was on January 14 at Iowa State, when the Lady Raiders snapped an NCAA record 945-game streak of the Cyclones making at least one 3-pointer in a game. Dating back to February 19, 1995 against Colorado, the Cyclones have made at least one three in every game, setting the NCAA record in most games in a row with a 3-pointer. The Lady Raiders held Iowa State to 0-for-7 from beyond the arc on January 14 to snap the streak. Then, the Lady Raiders did it again when they held Kansas to 0-for-7 from three in their last game on January 29. The last time Kansas was held to zero threes was on December 10, 2017 against SE Missouri State when they went 0-for-12.
Juniors Bailey Maupin and Jasmine Shavers are the two leading scorers for the Lady Raiders in the second-consecutive season so far. Shavers leads the team with 14.5 points per game followed by Maupin's 13.7 points per game. In addition, Shavers has scored a team-best 333 points this year and Maupin is just behind with 314 points. The juniors account for almost 50 percent of the team's total scoring (43.2 percent) and account for 55.7 percent of the team's free throws with 163 made (Maupin with 83, Shavers with 84).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Colorado Buffaloes are 14-6 overall and 5-4 in conference play. Their most recent wins have come against BYU, Kansas State, Kansas and UCF. Some losses were against Cincinnati, West Virginia, Baylor and TCU. As a team, the Buffs are scoring 69.9 points per game while holding opponents to just 64.0 points per game. Shooting 46.4 percent from the field, Colorado totals 16.9 assists per game and 36.8 rebounds per game. The Buffs are led by three players who average double-figure scoring – Frida Formann (13.3), Jade Masogayo (12.2) and Lior Garzon (10.5). On the rebounding side, Sara-Rose Smith leads the way with 6.5 per game followed by Masogayo with 4.6.
