Red Raiders win second tournament of season
March 25, 2025 | Women's Golf
KENNESAW, Ga. – The Texas Tech women's golf team claimed victory on Tuesday, finishing on top of the leaderboard at the Pinetree Women's Collegiate at Pinetree Country Club. The Red Raiders won wire-to-wire, pacing the 11 other teams in action after the first, second and final rounds.Â
Klara Hurtova, who earned individual medalist honors for the second consecutive tournament, paved the way for the team victory. Hurtova climbed 10 positions during Tuesday's final round, shooting a 1-under-par 70, which pushed her into a tie with South Alabama's Katharina Scholl at 1-over-par 214 after 54 holes. The pair went to a playoff to decide the individual winner; Hurtova came out victorious on the 55th hole by knocking in a par on the first playoff hole while Scholl suffered a bogey.
Hurtova's win comes just nine days after securing her first collegiate win, coming at the Valspar Augusta Invitational, March 15-16. The Red Raiders' trip to Georgia was a special one for Hurtova as she's produced back-to-back wins and three Top-5 finishes this season dating back to her second-place tie at the Red Raider Invitational, Sept. 24-25, which was previously her top career finish.
Maja Ambroziak also earned a Top 10 finish at the Pinetree Women's Collegiate, ending the 54-hole event at 4-over-par (217). The sophomore carded a final round 3-over 74 on Tuesday, allowing her to stay in the Top 10 with a sixth-place tie. It's her second Top 10 finish this spring and third of her sophomore season.
Texas Tech's team win, steered by the pair of Top 10 finishes by Hurtova and Ambroziak, gives the Red Raiders their second team win of the season, dating back to their Red Raider Invitational victory in the fall. It is also Texas Tech's second straight win at the Pinetree Women's Collegiate, having won the event in 2016 in its last appearance.
After back-to-back weeks in Georgia, the Red Raiders will return home to the Lone Star State and stay in Texas to close their regular season schedule in Dallas, April 7-8, at the Veritex Bank Collegiate hosted at Dallas Athletic Club.Â
