May 14, 2025 | Men's Golf
URBANA, Ill. – The No. 23 Texas Tech men's golf team clinched its fifth-consecutive trip to the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships on Wednesday, advancing out of the Urbana Regional at Atkins Golf Club as the fifth-place finisher. It will be the Red Raiders' 17th trip to the championships in program history and 13th under head coach Greg Sands.Â
The Top 5 teams across six regional sites secured bids to the championship on Wednesday, set for May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. It will be the second consecutive season that Omni La Costa will host 30 teams and select qualifying individuals.
Texas Tech finished the Urbana Regional 1-under-par (851) after 54 holes for its fifth-place finish. The Red Raiders used a strong round one (-5) to steer them to the finish line following a pair of rounds over-par. Despite rounds two and three, Tech joined the four other qualifying teams as the only five to shoot under par across the 54 holes, among the 13 teams in action this week.
Joining the Red Raiders (-1) in Carlsbad next week out of the Urbana Regional are No. 14 Illinois (-15) and No. 2 Oklahoma State (-15), who tied for first place, as well as UNLV (-6) and Troy (-2). Oklahoma State (1), Illinois (3) and Texas Tech (5) entered the event as Top 5 seeds, UNLV and Troy upended 2-seed North Carolina and 5-seed Long Beach State to join the big dance.
Texas Tech used a steady effort from senior Calum Scott to help advance from the regional. Scott finished the event 6-under-par (207) to earn a tie for fifth place. It marked his first Top 5 finish since placing tied for second at the Baton Rouge Regional in 2024. In an otherwise sterling performance for the third consecutive day, Scott was one hole shy from three-straight rounds in the 60s, carding his first double bogey of the regional on the final hole to finish with a 70 (-1) after scores of 68 (-3) and 69 (-2) in the previous two rounds.
Ben Gregg and Connor Graham both shot even-par (71) on the final day, while Charlie DeLong recorded a 73 (+2) to account for the fourth countable score, en route to a team 1-over-par (851).Â
The 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships will begin with a practice round on Thursday, May 22, for all 30 teams. Each team will be guaranteed three rounds of stroke play, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Stroke play competition will be cut to 15 teams on Monday, which will determine the eight teams that enter the match play portion of the schedule beginning on Tuesday. The national championship match play contest between the final two teams standing will conclude the event on Wednesday, May 28. Tech's best finish as a program at the NCAA Championships is fifth, having done so three different times (2010, 2018, 2022).
