LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech had eight players named Monday to the preseason All-Texas teams compiled by Dave Campbell's Texas Football, recognizing the top talent throughout the Lone Star State ahead of the publication's annual magazine hitting newsstands.
The Red Raiders ranked third among Texas schools for total selections, narrowly trailing only Texas (10) and Texas A&M (9) overall. The list of honorees included four first team selections in wide receiver Caleb Douglas, offensive lineman Howard Sampson, defensive lineman Lee Hunter and linebacker Jacob Rodriguez. The second team consisted of wide receiver Coy Eakin, offensive lineman Hunter Zambrano, outside linebacker David Bailey and safety Cole Wisniewski.
Douglas was also tabbed the publication's "top wide receiver" in Texas following a breakout junior season where he caught 60 passes for 877 yards and six touchdowns. It was easily his best season of his collegiate career thus far, as he previously combined for 21 catches for 308 yards and three touchdowns over two seasons at Florida.
The preseason accolades from DCTF follow similar summer rollouts of All-Big 12 and All-America teams from across the country. Texas Tech previously had 12 Red Raiders named to the preseason All-Big 12 teams compiled by Phil Steele Magazine and its preseason All-Americans, which included Rodriguez on the second team and Hunter on the fourth team.
The Big 12 will release its own preseason team in the coming week ahead of the league's annual Media Days event held at The Star in Frisco on July 8-9.Â
