August 06, 2025 | Football
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Texas Tech wideouts Caleb Douglas and Reggie Virgil were each named to the 2025 Biletnikoff Award Preseason Watch List on Wednesday. announced by Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc., the Florida-based creator and sponsor of the prestigious Biletnikoff Award. The award is presented annually to the nation's most outstanding college receiver.
The Red Raiders were one of eight schools nationally to have multiple players recognized on the Biletnikoff watch list. Overall, 47 players were tabbed to the 2025 preseason watch list, with 10 of those coming out of the Big 12.Â
Both seniors, Douglas enters his second season with the Red Raiders, while Virgil is set for his first. Douglas was the lone skill player on offense to start in all 13 games last season during what was a breakout season in his debut with the Red Raiders, finishing as Texas Tech's second-leading receiver after catching 60 passes for 877 yards and six touchdowns. Meanwhile, Virgil also enjoyed a breakout season in 2024 while at Miami (OH). He spent the first three seasons of his collegiate career playing for the Redhawks, but recorded 41 of 43 career receptions as a junior, as well as 816 of 878 career receiving yards and nine of 10 career receiving touchdowns during the 2024 season.
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the college football season's outstanding FBS receiver. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes college football's outstanding receiver, not merely college football's outstanding wide receiver. Receivers are also frequently added to the watch list as their season performances dictate. Actual, not potential, performance is the basis for inclusion on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List.
Â
The Biletnikoff Award's semifinalists, three finalists, and award recipient are selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of 600 prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, Biletnikoff Award winners, and other former receivers. Foundation trustees do not vote and have never voted. For a list of voters, please see BiletnikoffAward.com/voters.
