CARY, N.C. – The Lady Raider pairing of Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Mariia Hlahola earned a main draw bid in doubles at the ITA All-American Championships, highlighting Texas Tech's appearances at the competition.
No. 49-ranked Dmitrichenko and Hlahola picked up their first win in the qualifying doubles draw when they took down North Carolina's Claire Hill and Mary Grace Rennard in a decisive, 6-2, 6-1 win. They would advance to the main draw of the ITA All-Americans after beating Iowa's Daianne Hayashida and Tereza Dejnozkova, 6-4 (retired), the following day. In the main draw, the Lady Raider duo fought hard against No. 25-ranked Jasmine Conway and Anna Zyryanova of NC State, but fell by a 7-6, 6-4 score, ending their run at the tournament.
Both Hlahola and Hailey Murphy started ITA All-Americans in the pre-qualifying singles draw. Hlahola went 2-1 in the draw, almost advancing to the qualifying draw of singles. She first defeated Indiana's Alessandra Teodosescu, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0, to open the tournament. Then, she took down 21-seeded Rinon Okuwaki of Clemson in the following round, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 7-6 (1). She needed one more win to get to the qualifying draw but fell just short to conference foe, Maria de la Paz Alebrto of Iowa State.
In Murphy's first-round match, she picked up a dominating victory over Oklahoma State's Marcela Lopez to advance in pre-qualifying before dropping her next contest to Wisconsin's Tianna Rangan. In the qualifying draw, No. 76 Dmitrichenko faced No. 118 Valery Gynina (Florida), ultimately falling to the Gator in the first round.
Up next, the Lady Raiders compete at the ACU Invitational in Abilene, Texas on Sept. 26-28.
