Red Raiders break two school records Saturday

Kyzer Dunbar broke the school record in the 600-yard in only his third race
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech indoor track and field team wrapped up its weekend of competition in Boston and Lubbock Saturday evening.

True freshman Kyzer Dunbar set a new Tech record in the 600yd with a time of 1:08.14 – his third time running the event. The record was previously held by Vincent Crisp in 2018 (1:08.16). In that same race, George Garcia placed second, with his time being 1:08.57, putting him No. 9 all-time for Tech.
The men's triple jump saw Jonathan Seremes secure his second win of the season as he bounded 16.75m (54-11 ½). Ruta Lasmane led the women in second place with a mark of 13.32m (43-8 ½) as part of a 2-6 finish from the Red Raiders.
Evelyn Lavielle led the women in the high jump clearing 1.87m (6-1 ½) taking first, while Claire Lowrey recorded a SB 1.83m (6-0) for second place. For the men, BJ Jennings finished fifth clearing 2.10m (6-10 ¾).
The women's 4x400 took the top spot, lowering its school record to 3:31.21, thanks to Mekenze Kelley, Anita Afrifa, Lovina Ewusi and Olayinka Olajide. The previous record was 3:31.83 at the Corky Classic. The team of Shaemar Uter, Kamron Neal, Desean Boyce and Brian Tinega combined for a time of 3:03.92 to cap off the meet for Tech. The time goes down as No. 4 all-time for Tech.

Lily Mather placed 45th in the mile invite with a time of 4:40.17, good for No. 8 all-time in Tech history. Mather would go on to also run in the 3k (9:39.57). Fanny Arendt made her Tech debut this season in the 800m invite but went down as a DNF after 400m.

The Red Raiders will be off next week before coming back to the Sports Performance Center for the Big 12 Indoor Championships (Feb. 27-28).
