Oklahoma State defeats No. 16 Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 16 Texas Tech Lady Raiders fell to the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, 75-65, on Saturday afternoon at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Texas Tech (23-4, 10-4 Big 12) was led in scoring by senior Bailey Maupin, who had 19 points and went 8-for-9 (.889) at the free throw line. Maupin recorded her team-leading 24th double-digit game of the season against Oklahoma State (20-7, 9-5 Big 12). Senior Snudda Collins was just behind with 18 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the field (.467) while adding a team-best two 3-pointers and five rebounds. Collins totaled her 23rd double-figure scoring game of the year to rank second on the team in that category.
Texas Tech opened the game with the first four points on layups from Maupin and Jalynn Bristow. The Cowgirls scored one of their own before Sarengbe Sanogo answered with another Lady Raider layup. Oklahoma State made it 6-4, then Tech got a second-chance layup from Bristow for the four-point advantage. Collins made a turnaround jumper right before the media timeout as Tech led 10-6. Then, the Cowgirls hit a three to cut their deficit down to one. But, the Lady Raiders got a layup from Jada Malone in response. Oklahoma State once again scored a triple to tie things at 12-12, but Collins connected with a triple right after. The Cowgirls would make a jumper at the end of the quarter as Tech led 15-14 after one.
The Cowgirls began the second quarter with eight of the first 10 points to take a 22-17 lead. Gemma Núñez was able to make a driving layup to stop the Oklahoma State momentum, but the Cowgirls would follow with the next four points for the 26-19 advantage. Núñez made a free throw, then Collins scored a last-second layup to cut into the lead. But, OSU would get a pullup jumper right before the media timeout to extend its lead to six. Oklahoma State closed out the half on a 10-2 run to lead by a 36-24 score.
Maupin scored the first five points of the third quarter thanks to a 3-pointer and two free throws. However, the Cowgirls would go on an 8-0 run to force a Texas Tech timeout with 6:44 left in the period. Collins came out of the timeout scoring a jumper, then Sidney Love connected with a free throw to make it 44-32. Oklahoma State went on a 5-0 run before the Lady Raiders answered with a 6-2 run of their own to get within 13 after three quarters.
Denae Fritz made two free throws to begin the final period. Collins hit a three to make it a 10-point game, but Oklahoma State scored a layup to extend their advantage. Both teams connected with free throws, then the Cowgirls got a 3-pointer for a 60-45 lead. Fritz answered with a layup to cut the deficit to 13 with 6:38 left. The Lady Raiders got within 11 points, but the Cowgirls forced a Tech timeout after scoring the next five points to make it 69-53. Núñez would score a second-chance layup after grabbing the offensive rebound, then Fritz hit a three to make it 71-58. Maupin was able to score the next four Lady Raider points, but the Cowgirls made free throws at the end of the game to win it by a 75-65 score.
