No. 20 Tech earns largest ranked win since 2000

LUBBOCK, Texas – It was all Texas Tech from start to finish as the No. 20 Lady Raiders dominated the No. 15 Baylor Bears, 87-56, behind 20+ point performances from Bailey Maupin and Snudda Collins on Wednesday night at the United Supermarkets Arena.
The Lady Raiders (24-4, 11-4 Big 12) were led in scoring by Collins with 23 points on 9-for-15 shooting from the field (.600). Collins would total her fifth 20+ point game and 24th double-figure scoring game of the season. Maupin was just behind with 22 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field (.538) and 4-for-7 shooting from behind the arc (.571). Her four 3-pointers led the team as she also went 4-for-4 at the free throw line and added two steals against Baylor (22-6, 11-4 Big 12). Maupin leads the Lady Raiders with 25 double-digit games and six 20+ point games this year.
Sarengbe Sanogo tallied 10 points on an impressive 83.3 percent shooting clip (5-for-6). She led the way in rebounds with seven and picked up two steals in the game. Gemma Núñez also added 10 points in the game on 4-for-7 shooting from the field (.571), while tallying three rebounds, three assists and a team-leading four steals. Sidney Love came off the bench and led the team with six assists while recording three steals and four points.
The Lady Raiders shot lights out – going 55.7 percent from the field (34-for-61) and making eight 3-pointers in the game. Tech added 13 assists, 12 steals and three blocks, while forcing 21 Baylor turnovers. The Lady Raiders also held the Bears to 36.4 percent shooting (20-for-55) from the field and 17.6 percent from the three-point line (3-for-17).
The Lady Raiders picked up their third top-15 win of the season and fourth quadrant one win, going 4-1 in quad one games this season. This win marks the largest margin of victory over a ranked team since at least 2000 and the second largest win over Baylor in the last 30 years. Texas Tech swept the Bears for the first time in a season since 2003-04 and got a win in Lubbock over Baylor for the first time since 2011. The Lady Raiders picked up their 24th win of the season and 11th Big 12 win, the most overall wins since 2004-05 and most conference wins since 2011-12. Texas Tech is tied for second in the Big 12 regular season standings with Baylor and West Virginia and is only one win behind leader TCU, who is 12-3 in Big 12 play.
Sanogo began the game with a layup, then Núñez scored one of her own for the 4-0 lead. Baylor got a bucket to make it 4-2, but Maupin hit a three in response to lead by five. The Lady Raiders would get a second-chance layup from Sanogo to extend the Texas Tech lead, until the Bears got a layup on the following possession. Núñez nailed a 3-pointer to answer, but the Bears scored the next four points to make it 12-8. The Lady Raiders followed with a 6-2 run thanks to a Collins and-one play and a three. Baylor made a mid-range jumper, but Tech scored four-straight points on baskets from Collins and Núñez. The Bears hit a three at the end of the quarter, but Tech led 22-15 after one.
Sanogo once again started the scoring in the period with a layup thanks to a dish from Love. Love followed with a steal which led to a Maupin triple to make it 27-15. Baylor scored a jumper to stop the Tech run, but the Lady Raiders responded with the next five points on a three from Maupin and a layup by Núñez, both of whom grabbed steals before then to lead to their buckets. The Bears scored their second field goal of the quarter at 6:27 with a three, but Maupin made her fourth 3-pointer of the game right after. Denae Fritz was able to score a layup, then Jada Malone and Maupin made one of their own for a 39-22 advantage. Baylor stopped the Tech momentum with a free throw, but Collins answered with another three. Both teams scored four points in the final 1:09 of the period, with Collins hitting a last-second mid-range jumper for the 48-28 lead at the half. In the quarter, the Lady Raiders shot 78.6 percent from the field (11-for-14) and 80.0 percent from behind the arc (4-for-5). Â
Baylor opened the second half on a 7-2 run to force a Texas Tech timeout. Collins stopped their run with a couple of free throws, but the Bears immediately scored with a second-chance layup right after to make it 52-37. Núñez made a free throw at the 5:36 mark to spark a 5-2 Lady Raider run. Baylor got two free throws in answer, but Adlee Blacklock came in and made a 3-pointer for a 60-41 score. Sanogo added a layup, then Maupin scored two free throws before the Bears got another point. Love was able to extend the lead to 67-44 with a layup at the buzzer, the Lady Raiders' second buzzer-beater of the night.
Baylor scored the first bucket of the fourth quarter, but Love responded with a layup on the following possession. Both teams were scoreless after that until 7:51 when Sanogo made another basket. Baylor answered with a 4-0 run before Bristow sparked an 8-0 Texas Tech run with a tough layup. Baylor didn't score again until the 3:55 mark, but Texas Tech got the next eight points thanks to buckets from Collins, Maupin and Malone for a 35-point lead, the largest of the night. The Bears made two free throws and a jumper at the end of the game, but the Lady Raiders would win it by a dominating, 87-56 score.
