February 21, 2026 | Men's Basketball
LUBBOCK – Donovan Atwell made six 3-pointers and scored a season-high 26 points while Christian Anderson had 21 points and nine assists to lead No. 13 Texas Tech to a 100-72 win over Kansas State on Saturday at United Supermarkets Arena. The Red Raiders (20-7, 10-4 Big 12), who played their first game without all-American JT Toppin after he suffered a season-ending injury at Arizona State on Tuesday, scored over 100 points for the second time in conference play this season has now won 20 or more games in all three seasons under head coach Grant McCasland and 19 times through 101 years of program history.
"After a really trying week and our game on Tuesday it was really special to be back in the USA," McCasland said. "It felt like there was a genuine belief and energy from everyone who was there to support us. The students were amazing and I'm really thankful. Our team came together and played for each other. It really says a lot about this group and how much they love each other and how competitive we were through a tough game and situation. I'm thrilled with the outcome."
Atwell now has 100 made 3-pointers this season, passing Cory Carr who has owned the single-season record of 94 since the 1996-97 season. He was 6-for-9 on 3-pointers in the game and is now 100-for-219 (45.7%) for the season. Anderson was 3-for-6 on 3-pointers in the game and now has 91 made 3-pointers for the season, just three back of Carr's previous record. The Red Raiders were 13-for-28 (46.4%) from deep in the game and have now made 10 or more 3s in 21 of 27 games this season. Atwell had a previous season-high of 22 points in the opener against Lindenwood and now has nine games this season and 23 in his career making five or more 3-pointers in a game. Anderson recorded his 10th game this season with 20-plus points and the 14th of his career.
Tech made 19-of-23 free throws while K-State (11-16, 2-12 Big 12) was just 10-for-17. The Red Raiders owned a 40-28 rebounding advantage in the game and had six players finish with four or more rebounds. The 100 points are only behind a 102-80 win over Oklahoma State on January 3 and was only the fourth time a Tech team has scored 100 or more points in a Big 12 game.
LeJuan Watts added 19 points and six rebounds, going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line and also finishing with two assists and a block. Luke Bamgboye started in place of Toppin and provided 12 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots while Jaylen Petty had four assists and scored 10 points to give all five starters double-figure scoring performances. Josiah Moseley led the reserves with five rebounds, four points and one block while Marial Akuentok had four rebounds and two points. Watts and Moseley led the team with three offensive rebounds each.
PJ Haggerty led K-State with 17 points while Nate Johnson scored 15 and Taj Manning added 10. The Wildcats finished the game shooting 6-for-20 (30.0%) on 3-pointers.
Texas Tech took a 49-35 lead into halftime after making eight 3-pointers and having a 21-11 rebounding advantage. Atwell led the Red Raiders with 21 points after going 5-for-7 on 3-pointers in the first half while Anderson had five points, four assists and three rebounds. Watts and Petty added six points each while Bamgboye had five points and four rebounds. Anderson made Tech's first 3 of the game to tie it at 3-3 before a 7-0 run had the Red Raiders leading 14-7. Atwell's third 3-pointer had Tech up 28-14. Tech went on a run of making nine straight shots, capped by a Moseley lob dunk for a 40-20 lead. The Red Raiders were 8-for-18 (44.4%) on 3-pointers while K-State was only 3-for-10 from beyond the arc. All eight players who played in the first half had at least one rebound with Moseley leading the team with two offensive rebounds. Â
Texas Tech improved to 13-1 at home with the win and will now host Cincinnati at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at United Supermarkets Arena before playing at No. 6 Iowa State next Saturday.
