Kansas defeats No. 20 Tech in Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Senior Sarengbe Sanogo had a career night, but the No. 20 Texas Tech Lady Raiders fell to the Kansas Jayhawks, 68-59, on Wednesday evening at Allen Fieldhouse. Â
For Texas Tech (24-6, 11-6 Big 12), Sanogo totaled a career-high of 16 points, while adding season-highs in blocks (5) and steals (2) against Kansas (18-11, 8-9 Big 12). Sanogo shot 80.0 percent from the field (8-for-10), tying career-bests in both field goals and attempts, while also tying for the team lead with six rebounds.
Gemma Núñez became one of 11 active players in the nation to total 500 career assists and rebounds as she totaled a team-high six boards and six assists in the game. Both Bailey Maupin and Snudda Collins totaled their 26th and 27th double-figure scoring games with 10 and 11 points, respectively
Sanogo started the game with an and-one play on the first possession. Kansas evened things up with a layup, but then Bailey Maupin and Sanogo went back-to-back on buckets for a 6-2 advantage, Kansas scored four-straight points to tie the game at 6-6, before Sanogo got another layup as she totaled six of the Lady Raiders' first eight points. Before the media timeout, Jalynn Bristow nailed a three for the 11-6 advantage, but Kansas answered with the next seven points to take a 13-11 lead. Snudda Collins and Maupin scored four of the next six points in the game, then Adlee Blacklock made a triple to make it 18-15 in Tech's favor. Denae Fritz hit a three at the end of the quarter to give the Lady Raiders a 21-17 advantage.
In the second period, Sanogo posted back-to-back blocks on Kansas' first possession. The Jayhawks closed the gap with a layup two minutes in, but Fritz responded with a three, her second of the game. Kansas went on a 4-0 run before the Lady Raiders got another and-one opportunity, this time from Maupin, who made it 26-23. Núñez kept the Tech momentum with a layup after Sanogo got a steal, followed by another Sanogo jumper for the seven-point advantage. The Jayhawks went on a 5-0 run to answer before Sanogo scored another layup. Kansas made a free throw at the end of the period as Tech would lead 32-29 at the half.
The Jayhawks outscored Tech 8-4 to begin the third quarter, taking a 37-36 lead with 5:48 left in the period. Collins was able to retake the lead for the Lady Raiders with two made free throws. Collins followed with two layups, while Kansas made one of its own, for a 42-40 lead. Both teams traded points for the remainder of the quarter as Maupin secured a layup with 34 seconds remaining to give the Lady Raiders a 52-48 advantage.
Kansas made the first bucket of the final quarter before Sanogo scored a layup to make it 54-50. The Jayhawks cut into the lead with another layup as Tech called a timeout with 7:10 left in the game. Kansas outscored Tech 7-3 following the timeout to lead 59-56. Collins scored three points on a layup and a free throw, but Kansas added four free throws and a three in response for a 66-59 advantage. Kansas made more free throws at the end of the game, winning it by a score of 68-59.
