Tech, Houston to kick off Big 12 play in prime time on FOX

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Big 12 Conference, in conjunction with broadcast partner FOX, announced Friday that Texas Tech's Week 3 matchup against Houston will kick off Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. CT on FOX.
Previously announced on April 10, the Red Raiders received two date adjustments to their 2026 schedule, moving the Houston matchup to Friday, Sept. 18, and the regular-season finale against TCU to Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, Nov. 26. The changes were part of nine non-Saturday games announced by the Big 12 following consultation with the league's television partners, FOX and ESPN.
Friday's announcement was part of FOX's Friday Night package, which currently includes three Big 12 home-hosted contests: Kansas hosting Missouri in Week 2 (7 p.m. CT), Texas Tech hosting Houston in Week 3 (7 p.m. CT), and Utah hosting West Virginia in Week 13 (7 or 8 p.m. CT).
Texas Tech's Big 12 opener versus Houston could feature a matchup of preseason top-25 teams for FOX's national viewing audience, as several media outlets have included both programs in their early rankings. The Red Raiders enter the game with six consecutive wins in the series and victories in 11 of the past 12 meetings, including a 49-28 road win last season in Houston.
While Friday's announcement revealed the first kickoff time and television designation for the upcoming season, later this month, the Big 12 and its television partners are expected to announce kickoff times and television designations for the first three weeks of the season. The remainder of Texas Tech's 2026 schedule will be released throughout the season on either a 12 or six-day basis following selections by the conference's television partners.
2026 Single-Game Football Tickets
Members of the Red Raider Club can exclusively purchase single-game tickets for the Friday night matchup against Houston, along with all home games, beginning May 13.
The general public can purchase single-game tickets to all seven home games beginning May 18.
