JUNIOR SEASON (2020-21)
Burton completed his first season with the Red Raiders averaging 4.3 points and 1.2 assists in 23 games played… He scored a season-high 10 points against Grambling in non-conference play where he added three assists in the win… In Big 12 play, Burton had a pair of 9-point games coming in the win at Iowa State where he went 4-for-8 from the field and then again at West Virginia where he also matched a season-high with five rebounds… Burton began the year with what would turn out to be a season-high five assists in the opener against Northwestern State and then scored eight points in the second game of the season against Sam Houston State… Burton suffered an injury at Kansas and missed eight games before returning to play against Utah State and Arkansas in the NCAA Tournament… He completed the season with 28 total assists and now has 256 assists through 90 games of his collegiate career.
PRIOR TO TEXAS TECH: Burton arrived in Lubbock after a sophomore season where he averaged 10.3 points per game and led Wichita State with 103 assists (3.4 per)… He dished out 228 assists through 67 collegiate games, had a career-high 11 assists in a game against Oklahoma State where he also had seven points… He set a new Wichita State freshman record in his first season by finishing his first collegiate season with 126 assists and also scored 6.0 points per game as a freshman… Burton scored a season-high 18 points against UT Martin by going 4-for-5 on 3-pointers and also added five assists and six rebounds in the game… He completed his sophomore season with a pair of double-digit scoring performances, going for 13 against Memphis and 14 against Tulsa with three 3-pointers in both games… Named to the Cancun Classic All-Tournament Team after contributing 10 points and five assists in the semifinals against South Carolina… Burton started 52 games in his WSU career after playing at Independence High School where he led his team to the North Carolina Class 4A State Championship and a 31-1 record as a senior… He earned All-State Second-Team honors after a final year in high school where he scored 16.4 points per game to go along with 4.9 assists, 2.2 steals and 7.5 rebounds per game… His high school career ended with him winning the state title game with 13 points and seven rebounds and being named Most Valuable Player.
PERSONAL: Son of Rosso and Kimberly Burton… His mother played basketball at Alabama A&M, brother, Amonti, and two older sisters, Kimera and Destani all played collegiate basketball… His uncle, Todd Peat, played six seasons in the NFL for the Cardinals and Raiders… His cousin, Andrus Peat, plays for the New Orleans Saints and was the 13th overall pick in the 2015 draft... Also has two aunts, Pamela White and Tammy Newton, who played college basketball... Burton is majoring in Communications. Signed with Texas Tech on April 15, 2020.
