Elijah Mays is in his second season working for the Texas Tech basketball program as the Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach.
An Orlando, Florida native, Mays is dedicated to developing athletes by combining evidence-based performance training, leadership development, and long-term athletic development to create lasting success beyond sport. Mays has also gained experience working at Rice University with the men’s basketball program as a strength & conditioning intern.
Before pursuing a career as a Strength & Conditioning Coach, Mays played professional basketball for two seasons in the Dublin Superleague and Albanian Unike Superleague after playing college basketball at Florida A&M University and McClennan College. At Florida A&M, Mays was the team captain and starting point guard as a senior where he averaged 6.1 points and 3.2 assists per game. Mays also played basketball and graduated from University High School in Orlando.
Mays graduated from Florida A&M University with a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Quantitative Analysis) with a minor in Economics before earning a master’s degree from Sam Houston State University in Kinesiology (Sport & Human Performance).
