After a stellar two-year career at Texas Tech, Missy Owens steps into a new role in her first season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Red Raider volleyball program.

Owens recently completed her senior season as Tech’s go-to setter, a role that earned her numerous accolades throughout her time in a Red Raider uniform. As a senior, she was named a 2018 AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention selection and became Texas Tech’s first player to earn 2018 Big 12 Co-Setter of the Year laurels. She also reigned in Preseason All-Big 12 and All-Big 12 First-Team honors. Owens eclipsed 3,000 career assists – posting three consecutive 1,000-assist seasons – and finished her collegiate career with 3,501 assists. One of the most aggressive setters in the league, she finished her final season with 121 kills and 1.15 kills per set on .274 hitting, her second-straight year with 100-plus kills.

The Yorba Linda, Calif., native transferred to Texas Tech prior to the start of her junior campaign where she quickly made an impact out on the court. She was the first Red Raider setter recognized by the Big 12 since 1998, picking up second-team honors after finishing third in the Big 12 with 10.87 assists per set. Finishing the year with 1,217 assists, her second straight season with 1,200-plus assists, she averaged 11.29 assists per set in the postseason to earn a nod on the NIVC All-Tournament Team and VolleyMob’s NIVC Dream Team.

As a sophomore at Long Beach State, Owens led the 49ers to a 21-10 overall record and 13-3 mark in Big West play. She compiled a team-best 1,225 assists and 31 service aces and ranked second in the Big West with 10.56 assists per set to help her team finish with the second-best hitting percentage in the conference at .256.

After utilizing a redshirt year as a freshman in 2014, she played her first season of volleyball at Long Beach State in 2015. She appeared in the final 10 matches of the season as a serve specialist and tied for second on the team with 0.19 services aces per set.
