The Texas Tech women's golf program has hired former Red Raider Bryan Novoa to the new assistant coach position, as announced by head coach Stacey Totman Friday. Novoa, a Laredo, Texas, native, was a former student-athlete for the men's golf squad during the final years of the Southwest Conference.
"I am really excited about Bryan joining the Texas Tech program," Totman said. "I believe the girls are going to benefit a lot from him. He is a phenomenal player that knows how to win and will teach that to the players."
Novoa helped lead Tech to the final Southwest Conference Championships title, as he tied for first with a three-round total of 213. He was honored with All-America status that same year. He was a three time all-conference performer and completed his career with 15 top-20 finishes. Along with the conference title, Novoa also finished first in the Crown Colony Collegiate and the Border Olympics during his senior year.
Novoa has most recently lived in San Antonio, Texas, while teaching the game that he still plays. His last golfing expedition was while on the Canadian Tour this past year.
"He is a great teacher of the swing," Totman said. "He understands all aspects of the game. It is great to have alumnus who are familiar with Texas Tech join the program, and he is going to help continue to move the program forward."
The 2006-07 season gets underway on September 11-12 when the Red Raiders travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the Dick McGuire Invitational. The following week Tech will host their only home event at the Rawls Course with the Jeannine McHaney Invitational.
