Texas Tech Men's Tennis Sweep Season Opener

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team opened their 2007 season hosting Prairie View A&M and Samford. The Red Raiders prepare for their first challenge of the season as they face No. 62 Denver.
Singles competition came out strong for the team as they dominated the competition. Setting the tone of the match were No. 12 nationally ranked Bojan Szumanski and No. 92 Sinisa Markovic. The two were the first singles wins for the Raiders against the Bulldogs, and were soon followed by the rest of the squad. Newcomer Milos Kustudija made his debut as a Red Raider with a win in the super tie-breaker against Bulldog Brian Dushock, 6-0, 5-7, (10-5).
Doubles competition started on a positive note as all three pairs had their first taste of victory. Szumanski and Christian Rojmar were the first with an 8-4 win over Samford's Sam Huffman and Renan Silveira. The seniors Teddy DiBlasi and Dimitrio Martinez stepped up and took the second doubles win from the Bulldogs, and secured the doubles point for the Red Raiders.
It will be the battle of the number ones on Sunday as two top 25 nationally ranked players will go head-to-head. Tech's Szumanski will face No. 21 Adam Holmstrom in singles competition. This will be the first meeting between the two programs as the Pioneers will be the first ranked opponent for the Red Raiders in 2007.
