Travis Hoffmeister (LHP - 6-3, 195 - L/L - RS Fr./RS - Burnet, Texas/Burnet)
It was a brief moment, but this fall Travis Hoffmeister was able to accomplish what he came to Texas Tech to do: Pitch.
Hoffmeister made a one-inning appearance during the Red & Black Series where he retired the side in order with three consecutive groundouts for the Red team.
Hoffmeister is a year out of having undergone Tommy John surgery (Nov. 23, 2010) to repair his left pitching elbow. Hoffmeister entered the Texas Tech program in the fall of 2010 injured after suffering an elbow injury during his final year of high school baseball at Burnet High School.
He was a dual threat in high school going 21-8 with five saves and a 2.35 ERA in 40 appearances during his prep career. He notched 195 strikeouts while issuing just 41 walks while pitching in high school.
Hoffmeister was also impressive at the plate batting .374 with 86 hits, 34 doubles, six triples, four home runs and six stolen bases during his prep career.
"Travis is a guy we have high hopes for," fourth-year head coach Dan Spencer said. "He is a tall left-hander and is young. When he was healthy we really liked him and signed him here. He is getting back (to being healthy), he is getting closer. He is a good kid who works hard. How many innings he gets this spring is hard to say. We are excited to have him in our program."
In addition, Hoffmeister is one of seven left-handed pitchers on the Red Raiders roster, but is one of just two lefties who are freshmen (true freshman Ryan Bielitz).
