BRADENTON, Fla. -- The Texas Tech women's golf team dropped three spots to 12th place on Sunday after its third round to make the 15-team cut into the final round Monday in the NCAA Women's Golf Championships at The Concession Golf Club.
Tech (319-294-307--920) is 56-over par total for the tournament, ahead of 12 teams by Sunday's end. The third was suspended due to darkness at approximately 8:21 p.m.ET on with six teams finishing their third rounds Monday morning.
The Lady Raiders ended the second round on Friday with the lowest round of the day by seven shots but played exactly to the morning average at 19-over par on Saturday.
"I thought today was actually the hardest (the course) has played all week," Tech head coach JoJo Robertson said. "They did shorten some of the holes but there was more wind than we have seen so far."
Tech is 10 strokes ahead of No. 3 UCLA and12 strokes ahead of No. 2 South Carolina, who missed the cut along with No. 9 Texas A&M (+69) and No. 6 LSU (+74).
The Lady Raiders finished 10 strokes clear of the cut line at +66 and have already finished ahead of the nine teams needed to stay inside the top 15.
The fourth and final round of stroke play competition will begin at 10:50 a.m. ET.
Tech will tee off on No. 10 beginning at 11:40 a.m. ET alongside 10th-place Northwestern and 11th-place Arkansas.
Senior Stephanie Bertelsen (78-73-75--226) carded the second-best score of the day for Tech on Sunday with a 3-over par 75 and is tied for 25th individually through three rounds. Kimmy Hill (84-76-74--234) once again shaved strokes to fire Tech's best round of the day at 2-over. Sarah Brown eliminated any bad thoughts of the first two rounds with a solid 4-over 76. Lauren Mason (82) and Gabby Barker (85) rounded out the third round scores.
"I think we played the course smarter the today and that's something we've talked a lot about," Bertelsen said. "We just have to be sure to eliminate the bad holes, bad chips, bad putts. Everyone knows they can play well out here now so we can do it all together tomorrow."
The NCAA Women's Golf Championships makes its TV debut on the Golf Channel with a live broadcast of the final round of stroke play beginning at 4 p.m. ET, Monday.
