Keter Secures Top Time at Mountain Region, Advances to NCAA Championship

Benard Keter named NCAA Division I All-Region Honoree yesterday morning in Logan, Utah
LOGAN, Utah – Texas Tech Cross Country completed their 6k and 10k runs Friday afternoon, where one Red Raider obtained a top-10 finish allowing him the opportunity to compete in the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana on Saturday, November 19.
Senior Benard Keter clinched a 10th place individual finish on the men's side completing his first-ever 10k run in a time of 31:07.7, making him one of three competitors from the men's Mountain Region advancing to the NCAA Championship.
"It is exciting for Benard to qualify for the national meet, I anticipate him representing Texas Tech well there," Head Coach Jon Murray said.
Senior Jocelyn Caro wrapped up her season leading the women's 6k for the Red Raiders coming in 23rd. The meet marked her sixth-consecutive first-place finish amongst teammates with a time of 20:52.6.
Trailing Keter on the men's side: Ebenether Wondaferew (32:37.7), Nathan Gift (33:38.6), Todd Mickey (34:13.8), Nick Rivera (34:37.2) and Clark Blunt (34:46.5).
Following Caro on the women's side: Hattie Schunk (22:00.4), Jasmine Torres (22:18.9), Lynda Hanson (22:45.7), Maggy Mulholland (23:23.4) and Jessica Gallardo (23:24.3).
Junior Miguel Bautista ran into shoe troubles in the mile-four stretch of the race forcing him to forfeit the rest of the race.
 "As always the Mountain Region is one of the toughest regions in the nation. I thought both teams competed well and I am proud of their effort," Murray said.Â
