Benard Keter heads to Terre Haute, Indiana to represent Texas Tech in the NCAA National Championships this Saturday
LUBBOCK, Texas – Senior Benard Keter looks to make a mark for the Red Raiders on the LaVern Gibson Championship course in Terre Haute, Indiana Saturday, November 19 at 11 a.m. CDT where he will pace his second 10K of the season.
Keter's last 10,000-meter race took place last weekend at the Mountain Region Championships in Logan, Utah where he secured a 10th place finish in a time of 31:07.7, pushing him to this weekend's competition in Terre Haute.
Despite his senior classification, Keter is a newcomer on the Texas Tech Cross Country team this season and has earned three first-place finishes along with three more top-10 finishes.
One of those first-place times took place at the Big 12 Championship on the Rawls course where Keter and teammate Miguel Bautista snagged the first and second-place finishes in times of 25:28.7 and 25:30.8.
The last men's individual NCAA Championship title brought back to Lubbock was by Kennedy Kithuka in 2012 when he paced the 10k course in 28:31.3. This is the only National title held by the Red Raider cross country men's team.
