Lady Raiders Continue Winning Tradition in the Coliseum

Texas Tech defeats UT-Rio Grande Valley, 80-64, during Throwback Game
LUBBOCK, Texas – Lady Raider Basketball continued its winning tradition inside the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum with an 80-64 victory over UT-Rio Grande Valley Sunday afternoon.

Texas Tech (5-5) got off to a slow start in the first quarter as UTRGV (9-3) knocked down five three-point shots including one by Valeria Tapia to take the lead at the end of the period.

The Lady Raiders continued to battle through the second quarter and entered the half tied at 36-36.

Tech was more aggressive in the third quarter, going to the line 14 times while playing clean on the defensive side. The Lady Raiders outscored the Vaqueros 18-10 in the third period and continued that momentum through the end of the game.

Tech shot 58 percent in the final quarter while holding UTRGV to just 31 percent, racking up 26 points compared to UTRGV's 18.

Four Lady Raiders scored in double figures for the fifth time this season. Senior Jada Terry led the team with 21 points, her second 20-point game of the season. Sophomore Erin DeGrate followed with 14 of her own and tallied eight rebounds. Junior Recee' Caldwell scored 11 for the Lady Raiders, her fourth double-digit point game of the season, while Freshman Lyndsey Whilby scored 10, marking her second straight 10+ point game.
