Red Raiders Finish Fourth At The Prestige

Texas Tech wraps up six consecutive days of tournament play on Wednesday
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The No. 7 Texas Tech men's golf team concluded six-straight days of tournament play Wednesday with a fourth-place finish at The Prestige, held at PGA West.

Tech stormed out of the gates early as Federico Zucchetti birdied three of his first four holes on his way to a 4-under round of 67, which featured eight birdies. At that point, after Ivan Ramirez also recorded an early birdie, Tech was just five shots off the pace.

However, struggles on holes 4-7 pushed the Red Raiders back to a double-digit deficit. Moving to the back nine, Tech once again joined the fray at the top of the leaderboard, going 5-under on holes 10 and 11, moving to within four shots of the lead.

The Red Raiders remained steady from there until holes 17 and 18, where Tech combined to go 7-over, tumbling to 1-over on the day and 9-over for the tournament. That finish moved the Red Raiders from a possible second-place finish to fourth, nine shots behind the eventual winner, No. 16 LSU. Tech was able to match or outpace fellow top-30 teams Stanford (8), San Diego State (14) and Arizona State (27).

Sandy Scott wrapped up an impressive tournament playing as an individual, carding a 1-under 70 in the final round to finish -4, tied for third place overall. Zucchetti and Ramirez tied for 14th, at even par for the tournament.

Tech will be back in action March 6-8, at the Southern Highlands Collegiate, which will take place in Las Vegas, Nev.
