The Red Raiders will play 11 of their first 17 nonconference matches against fellow Power 5 conference opponents.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Texas Tech men's tennis team wraps up its string of eight consecutive matches away from home and travels west for a pair of midweek matchups against No. 14 Southern Cal and No. 34 Indiana in California.
First serve for Tuesday's USC match is set for 5 p.m. CT on the USC campus followed by a 1 p.m. CT meeting with Indiana on Thursday at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. Live video for the USC match is available courtesy of www.TexasTech.com.
Last time out, the Red Raiders (6-9) dropped a pair of road decisions to No. 23 Illinois and No. 16 Northwestern. Texas Tech has played a tough nonconference slate with its last four setbacks on the road or at neutral sites versus Top 25 opponents.
"This week in California is another exciting trip for our team with great opportunity," Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. "We get to play USC, the most decorated program in the country, on their courts. Certainly, that will be a tough test. Then, we get to go down to La Jolla and play at the beach club which is something truly special. Indiana will be another tough match and one we need to be ready for. The La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club is one of a kind. A very special trip for our student-athletes, we are very fortunate to stay there and get to play against a quality opponent in Indiana on these courts."
Bjorn Thomson has posted a spotless 10-0 record to start dual match action and has won six of his 10 decisions on court three. He has been dominant and won 15 of his 20 sets by allowing three games or less. Thomson has logged two, three-set triumphs most notably over No. 105 Thomas Mayronne of South Carolina.
Connor Curry and Alex Sendegeya have posted 8-5 and 8-6 marks in singles play. Sendegeya has claimed eight of his 10 decisions between the No. 3 and No. 4 singles spots, while Curry has secured a 6-2 record since the UTSA match on Feb. 10.
Jolan Cailleau has battled to a 4-7 record on the No. 1 singles line with four of his seven setbacks coming against fellow ranked opponents. He possesses a No. 63 ITA singles ranking with his last two losses coming versus Top 30 players.
Texas Tech has won the doubles point during three of its last four matches highlighted by a pair of close matchups at No. 16 Northwestern on March 5. Jackson Cobb and Sendegeya have emerged with a 4-1 mark at the No. 3 position.
The Trojans (13-2) have won all 10 of their home matches at Marks Stadium. Brandon Holt has turned in an impressive freshman campaign and notched a No. 16 ITA singles ranking. He also is paired with Riley Smith at No. 19 in doubles. USC won the lone meeting between the two schools, a 4-3 decision, in 2009.
Indiana (9-5) has lost five of its last seven decisions but tallied a 4-3 win over Purdue during its last match on March 5. Texas Tech earned a 6-1 win over the Hoosiers at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club last season. IU's lone ITA ranking comes from Raheel Manji and Keivon Tabrizi at No. 49 in doubles.
The Red Raiders next home match is Friday, March 24 versus Memphis. First serve is slated for 5 p.m. CT from the McLeod Tennis Center. Admission is free to all home tennis matches.
