Justin Bloss Commits to Men's Tennis

Bloss is the second member of Texas Tech’s incoming freshmen class for the 2017-18 season.
LUBBOCK, TEXAS – Texas Tech men's tennis coach Brett Masi has received a commitment letter from Justin Bloss to continue his career with the Red Raiders announced Wednesday as part of the spring signing period.
Bloss, a 5-10 right-handed player from El Paso, will begin his freshman season next fall. He chose the Red Raiders over UNC Ashville, Binghamton and Weber State. Bloss is the second member of Texas Tech's incoming freshmen class for the 2017-18 season after Russian Ilgiz Valiev signed a National Letter of Intent last week.
"When I first got the job at Texas Tech, I wanted to get more Texas representation on the roster," Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. "Justin is a great kid and fits the criteria of who we want to wear the Red Raider colors. He comes from a great tennis family and knows that he can come into Texas Tech and commit to what we are trying to accomplish."
Bloss holds a United States Tennis Association (USTA) Top 20 ranking inside the State of Texas and the Gulf States region coupled with a Top 250 national ranking in both the 16s and 18s. He also is rated a three-star prospect by TennisRecruiting.net and trains out of the Evert Tennis Academy located in Boca Raton, Florida.
Bloss is a 2016 Level 3 Regional Doubles Champion and Consolation Singles Champion. He also appeared at the 2016 Austin ITF Third Round and was a 2016 Florida Super Series Winner. Bloss was a semifinalist at the 2016 ITA Lubbock event. In 2015, he was a National L2 quarterfinalist and Regional L5 Doubles Champion.
"I chose Texas Tech because Coach Masi fosters an environment where his players continue to improve throughout their college career," Bloss said. "I also feel Texas Tech provides great resources for their student-athletes to be successful in their sport and in the classroom."
The Red Raiders have one home match remaining versus No. 4 Baylor this Saturday. First serve is on-tap for 6 p.m. CT from the McLeod Tennis Center with free admission and free pizza while supplies last. Texas Tech will honors is seniors Jolan Cailleau and Carlos DiLaura prematch.
