Men's Tennis Concludes Play at Cajun Classic

The Red Raiders will split their squad with two tournaments next weekend with the Rice Invitational in Houston and the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa.
LAFAYETTE, La. – Connor Curry of the Texas Tech men's tennis team repeated as singles consolation champion Sunday at the John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus.
Curry ripped off three consecutive victories over opponents from Oklahoma State, South Florida and LSU after he fell during his opening match of the weekend. He fired back for a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) comeback win over LSU's Gabor Csonka.
In the doubles finals, Curry and Artem Kapshuk were handed a 6-3 setback by Rodrigo Banzer and Leonardo Telles of Texas. The Longhorns took advantage of an early service break and wiped away three break chances for the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech's best opportunity to break back came at 1-3, but Telles ripped a pair of aces down 30-40 for the hold. Curry and Kapshuk fended off a four match points before the Texas duo clinched the match.
"It was tough to lose in the doubles final," Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. "We didn't start off great. When you play a doubles set to six, one or two points can cost you the match. I thought we played well, and I thought we competed well this weekend. There's some good stuff for the boys to use going forward and to build on for the rest of the fall season."
