Texas Tech will begin their Kansas campaign Friday in Manhattan before traveling to Lawrence on Sunday.
LUBBOCK, Texas – After beating Oklahoma State on the road last Friday, Texas Tech begins a new conference weekend as they head to Kansas for their first two-game Big 12 road trip of the year.
Last Friday's win against the 21st-ranked Cowgirls came thanks to a penalty kick taken by Ally Griffin in the 67th minute. It was the first time Texas Tech had beaten Oklahoma State since 2012, and the first loss the Cowgirls had suffered at newly-built Neal Patterson Stadium. The goal from Griffin was her fourth goal of the season, placing her second on the Red Raider team behind Jade King, who has six.
The match between the Red Raiders and the Wildcats will be the second meeting all-time between the two teams as Kansas State opened their women's soccer program last year. The first meeting between the two ended in a 3-1 Tech victory at home last September. Kansas is currently on a two-game win streak, with their most recent win being over the rival Wildcats. Last year's meeting between the Red Raiders and Jayhawks favored KU, but Tech owns a 4-1 record against them in the prior five meetings.
For assistant coach Gibbs Keeton, the team is hungry to pick up more shutouts this weekend to add onto the Big 12-leading nine they have accumulated thus far.
"We want to go there with the mindset that we're going to get a shutout," Keeton said. "We're not thinking about getting scored on – we're worried about how we can limit their opportunities to score and what we can do from there. One is a function of the other but it's our belief in our own team, so we want to do that to Kansas and Kansas State this weekend."
Kansas State is led by forward Katie Cramer, who has a team-high seven points off 13 games.
For the Jayhawks, Katie McClure has seven goals and three assists in 13 games.
Tech's game at Kansas State is scheduled for 6 p.m. First touch in Lawrence will be at 1 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN3.
