Red Raiders Fall at TCU, 2-0

A furious comeback attempt falls short as Tech's three-game winning streak comes to a halt in Fort Worth.
FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas Tech fell at the hands of TCU Friday night by a score of 2-0. The Red Raiders made a furious comeback in the final 15 minutes, but the two quick second half goals by the Horned Frogs held.
Â
The Red Raiders and the Horned Frogs fought through a back-and-forth first half, but neither could deposit a goal, despite TCU outshooting Tech, 4-1.
Â
As soon as the second half started, TCU sought to catch Tech off guard and dumped a deep pass down field right away. The pass was corralled by Messiah Bright, who took a shot from 25 yards out that beat Tech keeper Marissa Zucchetto to her right. Ten minutes later, McKenzie Oliver gathered a ball amidst a crowded mass in front of the Red Raider net and snuck it in to double the Horned Frogs lead.
Â
As time dwindled, the Red Raiders found new energy thanks to a handful of subs, including Demi Koulizakis, Ally Griffin, Jen Rose and Brittany Martin. Tech took control of the game and seemed to have TCU on their heels as they rattled off 10 shots in the final part of the half. The comeback attempt fell short, though, as TCU keeper Emily Alvarado made four saves to keep her sheet clean.
Â
After playing on the road for a month straight, Tech will return to the friendly confines of the John Walker Soccer Complex next Thursday for the regular season finale against Texas. First touch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
