Red Raiders Continue to Shine in Waco

Men's tennis sends three singles to the round of 16 on day two.
WACO, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis team sustained their run of singles success on day two at the ITA Texas Regionals.
Tech's day started with a bang, as Bjorn Thomson picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory to reach the round of 16. Shortly following that win, Artem Kapshuk completed his comeback win over his opponent from UTA by a count of 7-5, 5-7, 6-2. Ilgiz Valiev rounded out the morning with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 come from behind victory of his own to reach the quarterfinal round.
In consolation play, both Jackson Cobb and Justin Bloss were defeated by scores of 6-3, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-1, respectively.
The Red Raiders went 3-1 on the first day of doubles play, as the seventh-seeded duo of Mylnikov and Cobb took down UTSA, 8-5 in the first match of the afternoon. Later on, the tandem of Kapshuk and Valiev took their match 8-4 and the fifth-seeded team of Thomson and Wynn emerged victorious by a margin of 8-3. The lone doubles loss came at the hands of Incarnate Word over Bloss and Leite, 8-6.
Tech will continue play at the 2018 ITA Texas Regionals tomorrow morning.
