Garcia, Dong In the Top 20 After Two Rounds

Sofia Garcia will look for her fourth consecutive top-15 finish during Monday’s final round
SAN MARCOS, Texas – Sofia Garcia and Anna Dong both finished under par over two rounds Sunday to lead Texas Tech at the Jim West Challenge hosted at the Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos.
Garcia sank eight birdies between the two rounds, starting with an even-par 72 in the morning before lowering her card by three strokes to end the day in a tie for seventh individually. Garcia, who has been among the top-15 performers in all three tournaments this season, is five strokes off the lead entering Monday's third and final round.
Dong, meanwhile, closed the day at 1-under as she rebounded from a 3-over opening round to sign for a 4-under card, her lowest so far in her young collegiate career. Dong will be looking for her first career top-20 finish Monday as she is currently in a tie for 18th place.
Cecilie Nielsen and Mami Yamamoto were Tech's next two lowest performers as they are tied for 58th at 9-over, while Amy Taylor rounded out the lineup in a tie for 70th at 13-over.
As a team, the Red Raiders are in 12th place after combining to shoot 12-over 588 over 36 holes. Tech trails Mississippi State and Texas A&M by a stroke for 10th overall and Miami by four swings for ninth.
TCU jumped out to the opening day lead as the Horned Frogs are 9-under, five strokes in front of Florida State in second and eight ahead of host Texas State and Ole Miss in a tie for third place. Oklahoma and Missouri are tied for fifth at 2-over followed by Houston in seventh at 3-over and Memphis at 6-over in eighth overall.
The final round will begin with another 8:30 a.m. shotgun start Monday morning. Live scoring will be available throughout the round at www.BirdieFire.com.
