Red Raiders look to split the season series against the Jayhawks Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech volleyball team opens the final month of the regular season with a tough road test at Kansas with first serve from the Horejsi Family Athletics Center slated for Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Lawrence, Kansas.
Â
Leif Lisec and Jill Dorsey-Hall will be on the call for ESPN+. Saturday is KU's 'Salute To Service' game, and Texas Tech will join KU in honoring our fearless service men and women and veterans by wearing special warm-up tops and socks.
Â
The match provides an opportunity for a major resume-boosting road win as the Red Raiders continue looking ahead to the postseason. The Red Raiders (16-8, 5-5) enter Saturday in a three-way tie for fourth in the Big 12 standings, while the Jayhawks (14-7, 7-3) are receiving votes in the latest AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll and sit in second-place in the standings.
Â
The two teams met just three weeks ago with KU taking a 3-0 victory (25-22, 25-22, 25-19). The Red Raiders went toe-to-toe in both opening sets, but the Jayhawks closed strong both times thanks to an impressive 16.5 team blocks for the match.
Â
Tech benefited from an off day Wednesday and hopes to use the extra practice time and momentum from last Saturday's win over TCU to begin another win streak. Freshman right side/outside hitter Brooke Kanas has been a key player for the Red Raiders since the start of Big 12 play, and she showed out once again last week with 18 kills at West Virginia and a team-high 13 in the win over the Horned Frogs. For her efforts, she was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week for the second time this year.
Â
Kansas picked up a tough road win at West Virginia on Wednesday despite battling an injury bug as of late. For KU, the victory ended a three-match skid that slid them from first in the conference standings to two games below first-place Texas, who they beat in Lawrence in their first meeting.
Â
Texas Tech will be looking to end a 16-match skid against the Jayhawks and earn its first win in Lawrence since 2006. Overall, Tech is 16-30 against Kansas, including 7-16 in Lawrence.
