Lady Raiders Run Not Enough to Hold Off Mountaineers
February 10, 2018 | Women's Basketball
Sophomore Brittany Brewer leads team with 13 points
LUBBOCK, Texas – A late run to end the second quarter wasn't enough to fight off the Mountaineers as the Lady Raiders fell to West Virginia, 74-60.
West Virginia (18-7, 6-7 Big 12) opened the game with a fast-paced 22-13 first quarter. But the Lady Raiders (7-17, 1-12 Big 12) didn't give up the fight as they closed the gap with a 17-6 run in the final seven minutes of the half.
Tech held the Mountaineers to a two-point lead at the break. Tech came out of the half going point-for-point with WVU through the first few minutes of the third period. But the Mountaineers pushed ahead with an 11-5 run before junior Zuri Sanders hit a three-point shot with seven seconds left on the board, making it a six-point ball game heading into the final period.
West Virginia held the Lady Raiders to just 10 points in the fourth period, Tech shooting its lowest FG percentage of the game (30.8 percent).
Sophomore Brittany Brewer led the Lady Raiders for the second straight game with 13 points and she went 6-for-9 from the field. She also posted three assists and a steal against the Mountaineers. Junior Zuri Sanders followed with 12 points and six rebounds. Freshman Lyndsey Whilby had a great game as she posted 11 points and went 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.
Four Mountaineers scored in doubles figures led by Katrina Pardee who scored 19 points, four rebounds, five assists and four steals.
