LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will begin its spring slate of eight tournaments Sunday morning when the Red Raiders tee off at the UCF Challenge hosted at the Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Florida.
Â
The Red Raiders, who posted three top-six finishes in four tournaments this past fall, will be one of eight teams ranked in the top 50 of the Golfweek Magazine poll as Tech enters the spring at No. 46 nationally. No. 25 Vanderbilt is the highest-ranked school in the 16-team field that also features No. 27 Iowa State, No. 28 Wisconsin, No. 35 Auburn, No. 37 Miami and No. 40 East Carolina.
Â
Tech head coach JoJo Robertson will use a lineup consisting of seniors Gabby Barker and Lauren Mason as well as junior Mami Yamamoto and freshmen Louisa Brunt and Amy Taylor. It will be the collegiate debut for Taylor, who joined the Red Raiders just a few weeks ago from her native England.
Â
The three veterans on the Tech roster posted the three lowest stroke averages during the fall (among players with multiple tournament appearances) as Mason enters this week averaging 73.3 strokes per round, which is slightly better than Barker and Yamamoto's 73.7 clip. Brunt averaged 76.6 swings over four tournaments this fall as well.
Â
Tech will play 18 holes on each of the three days of the tournament, which is hosted by UCF. This is the first all-time appearance at the UCF Challenge for the Red Raiders, who will also make tournament appearances, in Utah, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Indiana, and of course Texas over the remainder of the spring.
Â
All five players in Tech's lineup will tee off at 7:45 a.m. CT Sunday morning as the Red Raiders will be paired with both Penn State and Miami. Live scoring will be available throughout the tournament at www.golfstat.com.
