Lauren Mason, Amy Taylor and Louisa Brunt combined to shoot even par Tuesday at the UCF Challenge
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech strung together its best team card of the UCF Challenge on Tuesday as the Red Raiders wrapped the three-day event in 11th place following a 2-over-par 290 final round at the Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Florida.
Â
Tech, playing in its first tournament of the spring, was 11 strokes better than its lowest score over the previous two days as the Red Raiders closed the event one stroke outside the top 10 with a 25-over 889 final card.
Â
"Today was more of the quality of golf that our team should be playing," Tech head coach JoJo Robertson said. "We dug ourselves into too deep of a hole the first two days to recover. We'll get home and get to work and look forward to having two weeks to prepare for our next tournament."
Â
Lauren Mason signed Tech's lowest round after she utilized five birdies on the day to finish with a 1-under 71 that pushed her into a tie with teammate Gabby Barker for 29th individually. She and Barker finished at 7-over for the tournament, one stroke behind Mami Yamamoto in a tie for 24th overall.
Â
The Red Raiders recorded 14 birdies altogether during the round, four of which that were from freshman Amy Taylor, who concluded her first collegiate event with an even-par card. Taylor had three birdies over her first five holes alone en route to finishing 10-over for the tournament and in a tie for 53rd overall.
Â
Louisa Brunt, meanwhile, started her day with a birdie at the par-5 13th before finishing 1-over thanks to another birdie at the par-4 6th and 15 pars. She finished in a tie for 72nd individually at 16-over for the tournament.
Â
Barker added the Red Raiders' final contributing score with a 2-over card, while Yamamoto, who posted the lowest three-day total from Tech's lineup, was 5-over during the final 18 holes. Yamamoto came into the round in a tie for seventh on the individual leaderboard.
Â
Miami held off a strong final round from East Carolina to secure the team title as the Hurricanes were 4-over for the tournament, four strokes better than the Pirates. Auburn closed the event in third place at 14-over while Vanderbilt and Wisconsin rounded out the top five at 16-over for the tournament.
Â
Tech will take just over two weeks off before returning to the links Feb. 26 at the Dickson Invitational hosted by the University of Houston. The two-day tournament will be held at The Woodlands Country Club outside of Houston. Â
