Red Raiders Fall to No. 25 Harvard, 4-2, in San Diego

Texas Tech dropped its first match of the San Diego Spring Classic with 4-2 loss to Harvard Friday
LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 37 Texas Tech dropped its first match of the San Diego Spring Classic on Thursday as the Red Raiders fell to No. 25 Harvard, 4-2, at the Hogan Tennis Center.

The loss moves the Red Raiders to 15-5 on the season heading into their final match of a weeklong trip to San Diego, which comes at 2 p.m. CT Saturday against host San Diego. Harvard improved to 14-2 overall with the victory.

The Red Raiders came close to securing the doubles point for the 15th time already this season as the tandem of Jackson Cobb and Alex Sendegeya secured a 6-4 victory on the No. 2 court. Harvard won a 7-6 tiebreaker to top Artem Kapshuk and Ilgiz Valiev moments later to clinch the point from the No. 3 spot.

Tech battled back and forth with Harvard in singles as Matheus Leite tied the match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory from the No. 6 position. The Red Raiders cut Harvard's lead to 3-2 later in singles thanks to a 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory from Valiev at the No. 4 court.

Harvard captured straight-set victories over both Tommy Mylnikov and Connor Curry at the top two spots and then closed the match with a three-set rally over Kapshuk on the No. 5 court. Kapshuk won the opening set, 6-2, before dropping the next two frames, 6-4, 6-3.

The Red Raiders will turn their attention to a San Diego program that is coming off a 4-3 loss to No. 24 Memphis on Friday morning. The Toreros, currently 6-5 on the season, are ranked 44th in the latest ITA poll.
