Texas Tech will play 36 holes Friday to start the Big 12 Championships in Dallas
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf team will look for its first Big 12 Championship in school history this weekend when the Red Raiders tee off the conference tournament Friday morning at the Dallas Athletic Club.
Â
The Red Raiders will play 36 holes Friday in order to avoid potential inclement weather conditions Saturday. The nine-team field will then play a third and final round to close the tournament Sunday morning.
Â
Tech is the No. 6 seed and will be paired with Iowa State and Baylor during the opening two rounds Friday, which are slated to begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The seeds were determined based on the latest Golfstat rankings.
Â
No. 7 Texas is the highest-ranked team in the field followed by No. 17 Oklahoma State, No. 18 Oklahoma, No. 28 Iowa State and No. 36 Baylor. The Red Raiders, coming off their first win of the season at the Lady Boilermaker Classic, are currently at No. 52 in the poll.
Â
All five players in Tech's lineup finished among the top-15 individuals at Purdue last weekend, highlighted by Gabby Barker and her fourth career tournament victory. Barker, who finished 3-under-par over three rounds, already owned the school history for individual wins as it was her first victory since the 2016 Henssler Financial Intercollegiate.
Â
Mami Yamamoto, Louisa Brunt and Amy Taylor all recorded their highest finishes of their respective careers at Purdue with Yamamoto leading the group in a tie for second place. Brunt ranked tied for fourth in the 35-player field, while Taylor was tied for 13th overall. Lauren Mason rounded out the lineup in sole possession of 10th place.
Â
Tech head coach JoJo Robertson will utilize the same lineup again this weekend as the Red Raiders have finished fifth of better in four of their last five tournaments. Barker leads Tech with a team-leading 73.9 strokes average that is followed by Mason at 74.0 and Yamamoto with a 74.1 clip.
Â
The trip to Dallas is a familiar one for the Red Raiders, who are playing in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex for the third time already this season. Tech previously finished fourth this past October at the Trinity Forest Invitational and then eighth earlier this month at the Bruzzy Challenge.
Â
The tournament is free for all fans who want to follow the Red Raiders this weekend in Dallas. Live scoring will be available throughout the event at Golfstat.com.
