Red Raiders Post Career Marks at Bryan Clay Invite

Distances athletes compete against many top opponents
AZUSA, Calif. – Thirteen of the Texas Tech Track and Field distance runners posted 10 personal best marks at the Bryan Clay Invitational Thursday and Friday nights.
Clark Blunt and Jasmine Torres opened the meet on Thursday with the 3000m steeplechase. Blunt recorded a season best time of 9:30.51 while Torres' 10:50.38 was a personal best.
In the men's 5000m, all five student-athletes recorded career best times. Joacim Zuniga led the pack with a time of 14:39.83 to finish 15th in heat five. Shea Whatley followed with his PR time of 14:43.28. Nathan Gift, Stephen Alvarez and Ebenether Wondaferew competed in heat eight of the event and all finished in the top 10. Gift took second with a time of 14:57.19, Alvarez followed in third with a time of 14:58.34 and Wondaferew took eighth place with a mark of 15:04.66.
Kaylee Amershek and Hattie Schunk represented the Red Raiders in the women's 5000m run. Amershek's time of 17:36.28 was her first ever mark in the event.
In the women's 1500m, all four athletes recorded personal best times. Jessica Gallardo led the group with a personal best time of 4:31.01. Lauren Offerman followed with a PR time of 4:35.37 while Lauren Younger came in at 4:36.04 (PR). Kaylee Amershek recorded a personal best time of 4:46.10 to round out the distance carnival in California.

Gift took second with a time of 14:57.19, Alvarez followed in third with a time of 14:58.34 and Wondaferew took eighth place with a mark of 15:04.66.
